 | Mobil Pegasus metal sign. 8 foot long by 6 foot tall by 3" deep flange. It has some wear-a crease where it folded, some rust spots. Easily repaired or keep it like it is for the patina. The bottom foot is not attached, but it just takes a couple screws to attach it. The feet are detachable. What an iconic piece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the exact same one that sold at an auction. M627C Mobil Red Flying Pegasus Horse Original Vintage 1954 Mobil Gas and Oil Company Red Flying Pegasus Horse " Cookie Cutter " Sign. As you can see from the pictures it is in good Condition with some minor wear. This one, as it hangs, is facing right and a hard one to fine. It is 92 inches from front hoof to rear hoof and 72 inches height. It is the BIG one ! It is commonly referred to as the cookie cutter version as it has 3 inch sides on it and looks like a very large cookie cutter. Came from the Wiltfong family trust auction in Norton Kansas . The Mobil Pegasus was displayed on the first Mobile Service station Wayne wiltfong operated on West Hwy 36 in Norton, Kansas. This is the current Pamida Discount store location. Wayne Wiltfong started Wiltfong Service as a Mobil oil distributor in October of 1962 providing bulk service to the community. In 1968 he leased the Mobil station on Hwy. 36 adding full service fuel,tire repair and light mechanic work as well as maintaining his bulk business. Mobil decided to pull their gasoline line out of Kansas and just provide oil products, but Wayne couldn't give up his 'Red Horse'. He moved it to the bulk plant until his failing health caused him to retire. The Pegasus then became a display piece at his home. After, Wayne passed away, the family moved the horse to storage where it remained until being sold at auction. - $8,500. |
